It’s true that habits can be so ingrained that we often act without thinking. As the saying goes, “we are what we repeatedly do.” The first step in changing our habits is to become aware of them, and to recognize how they may or may not align with our values and goals.
Values and Actions:
The idea of matching our values with our actions is an important one. Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics emphasizes the importance of cultivating virtues, or positive character traits, that enable us to act in accordance with our highest values. This requires self-awareness, discipline, and consistency.
